Grand Knight’s Message:

On behalf of the Edison Council, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy New year.

As of January 1st we entered the last half of our Columbian year. As many of you have heard, Supreme is not happy with council’s having Columbian Clubs. Therefore, they are in the process of issuing regulations regarding these councils. Metuchen Diocese is having a meeting of all Councils with Columbian Clubs on January 28th. Until then, we have to wait to find out what the new regulations will be.

We are grateful to the Ladies Auxiliary for their recent, very generous donations to both our Council and the Mentally Handicap drive. Please see the message further in this newsletter.

Our officers have been busy addressing the reasons why we have such a low turnout at all council functions, including our meetings. Last month we met and drafted a quick survey form for all members. This form is attached as the last page to this newsletter. Please take the time to complete this survey and mail it to the P.O. Box address listed at the top of the survey form. It is very important that you take a serious view when completing the form as it pertains to the future survival of our Pope Pius XII Council and our home in Edison.

Fraternally Yours,

Don Becker, Grand knight

   God Bless America

A NOTE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN

By Father Guy Selvester

Council Chaplain

Dear Brother Knights:

Happy New Year to you all!

Resolve that this year will be the year that you become a closer, more faithful, more devout follower of Jesus Christ. Instead of allowing the world and all its cares to overtake you and preoccupy you allow the love and service of God to be paramount in your life.

Stop worrying! Worry is useless and does nothing but waste your time and sap your strength. Worry feeds into your fears and causes you to doubt the Lord. It preys upon your faith and draws you farther away from God. So, let go of worry and have faith that in all things and at all times God is in charge.

Allow yourself to be more concerned about others in the year that is before us than you are about yourself. Sometimes we become so wrapped up in ourselves that we become oblivious to those around us who are in need and who could benefit from some of our time, effort and attention.

Place your life and the lives of your loved ones in God’s hands this year and be resolved to seek His will in all things and to have the grace to do it whatever it may be.

May Emmanuel, God-With-Us, the Son of God and of Mary, bless you and yours in the New Year!

Father Guy

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

Brothers,

If you are only a first degree or second degree member and are looking to advance toward third degree, please send me your contact information.  I cannot do any degree advancement work unless I know who the candidates are.  We should try to have a membership drive at St. Matthews Church sometime around March.  We would need the pastor's support plus support from our current members who are parishioners there.  It would also be nice to have fourth degree knights in regalia there who are from our council

Bob White, PGK

Membership Chairman

At present, the football pool has boxes available. Don’t be left out. Come on down to and enjoy yourself and support the council.

NOTICE

It is with great dismay that we have somehow allowed smoking at our bar. We have supported the NJ Law and our councils’ wishes for several years with a “No Smoking” Policy. Unfortunately, a few people have decided that they could smoke indoors in the bar area. This has resulted in the need to air out the council for a few days. It is imperative that we not do this anymore and continue to follow the NJ Law and our wishes.

Any bartender or member, who observes smoking occurring anywhere inside the council building, should immediately enforce our policy.

SICK AND DISTRESSED

If anyone has information about a member who is sick or in distress, please contact the council at 732-549-0763.

Please remember the following individuals in your prayers:

Our Troops, may they have a safe and speedy return home from duty.

We would like to send our condolences to the family of Bill Cronin who passed away on December 13th.  Bill was a member of our Council for 21 years. He will be greatly missed by all. May he rest in Peace.

Ladies Auxiliary Message

I received this note from the Ladies Auxiliary and felt it should be shown to all members:

Dear Grand Knight Don Becker

   and Fellow Knights of Columbus:

As 2014 comes to an end, it is with great regret that I must inform you that the Ladies Auxiliary will no longer be an organization within this establishment. Although we are no longer a designed group of ladies, we want you all to know that we are still here to support you in any way that we can.

As we close out our books, and on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary Council #4885, I would like to give the Knights of Columbus a check for $750.00. We hope that this will be able to help you with whatever it is you are in demand of.

This was a tough decision for all of us, and because no one knows what the future will hold, I can’t say that this is the end of our organization, but ofr now it is what we as a group needed to do.

We all wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year! We pray for all of you and will continue to support this council. Please reach out to us, we are here for you.

Yours truly,

Diane Stalling

Past President, Ladies Auxiliary
